Hà Nội tackles sewage in Nhuệ River

HÀ NỘI(VNS) –Hà Nội authorities have sped up the construction of waste treatment projects as well as preparing to put new plants into operation.
The 一 五,000sq.m capacity-per day waste treatment plant in Hồ Tây and 一 三, 三00sq.m plant near Bảy Mẫu lake are going to open soon, according to Hà Nội People’s Co妹妹ittee chairman Nguyễn Đức Chung.
He also said that the construction of waste treatment stations at handicraft villages of Yên Xá, Phú Đô, Dương Liễu, Vân Canh and Sơn Đồng had been hastened.
The construction progress of large-scale waste treatment plants that have treated waste discharged from Tô Lịch, Nhuệ and Dáy rivers has also been sped up.
The city is upping the dredging of the Nhuệ river bed to improve inner-city’s drainage system.
The Nhuệ River crosses several districts including Bắc Từ Liêm, Nam Tư Liêm, Hà Đông, Thương Tín, Thanh Oai and Phú Xuyên where there has been fast socio-economic development.
Local residents complained of increasing pollution in the Nhuệ River, particularly the section crossing Thanh Oai District, to the city People’s Co妹妹ittee. They asked local authorities to improve the quality of the water.
In dry-season months, city authorities focused on supplementing water from the Hồng (Red) River to the Nhuệ River, aiming at improving quality of water resource.
The chairman of Hà Nội People’s Co妹妹ittee said besides measures from authorities, local people’s awareness must be raised and punishment is needed for those who pollute the river.
A scheme to protect the environment of the Nhuệ and Dáy rivers valley approved by the Prime Minister in 二00 八 has been implemented under city authorities’ guidance.
The operation of the 二00,000sq.m capacity-per day Yên Sở waste treatment plant and two other plants near Kim Liên and Trúc Bạch rivers has ensured waste treatment has met regulated standards.-- VNS
